🐕 Can I Mix 8Gb Ram With 16Gb Ram
1. It should work. You'll get 12 GB of RAM in total, but you won't benefit from dual channel - it works only if both modules have the same capacity. Since this is a DDR3 system the advantage of dual channel is relatively small and it's probably worth sacrificing for additional 4 GB. Some DDR4 systems have sigificant boosts from dual channel
Two different RAM sticks 12GB vs. Two identical 8GB RAM. RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 8GB 3000MHz CL16 RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 4GB 3200MHz
Yes its safe and fine. The memory will also continue to run in dual channel mode as long as the matched sticks are in the correct memory slots. Sounds like your current ram is set up in dual channel mode so install the new ram in the open slots. Fishes39. OP • 4 yr. ago.
Doesn't matter with this type of module on your system. 1Rx8 means the module has a single rank with 8x 8 bit wide chips. Chip density is 8 GB / 8 chips = 8 Gbit. 1Rx16 means the module has a single rank with 4x 16 bit wide chips. Chip density is 8 GB / 4 chips = 16 Gbit. Your 11th gen CPU supports 16 Gbit chip density. Thanks for the comment.
The RAM runs at 2133MHz. You can insert faster RAM, however, it will run at 2133MHz. Yes, you can insert an 8GB module together with the 4GB module for a total of 12GB
To answer this question, we need to dive a bit into how RAM works in dual channel mode. The two sticks almost always are filled the same way, so if you are using 8GB of RAM, both sticks are holding 4GB, and if you are video editing with 20 chrome tabs open and use 16GB of RAM, both sticks are holding 8GB (probably each half of your footage and 10 chrome tabs).
Both the RAMs are DDR4 1.2V 260-pin SO-DIMM SDRAM. If it is currently harbouring 2400MHz , it down clocks to 2133MHz i.e., configured speed. Latency is nothing to be worried about (CL17, CL14). Page 2, max 16gb is what is listed. Get module with exact specs, voltage, configuration as listed in the manual.
I did came across this problem, as for my current PC I'm using 16GB I bought 2X 8GB Kits. The specs are exactly the same, but one of the other RAM kit has a slight different timing. The Version Numbers are different as well. So far I'm it's working well. But now I'm buying RAM for RyZen PC, which it can be rather sensitive when comes to RAM.
And, I can confirm that mixing x4 and x8 does work -- as long as the channels are matched. I went ahead and ordered the RAM (just got delivered) and am currently running the 32GB DDR4-2400 2RX4 in both the DIMM1 slots of CPU 1 and 2 and 16GB DDR4-2400 2RX8 in the DIMM2 and DIMM3 slots of both CPUs. The DIMM4 slots are empty.
Solution. #2. Welcome to the forums, newcomer! When performing a ram upgrade on any platform be it a desktop or a laptop, you're advised to upgrade with an identical stick of ram if you want to add ram. Otherwise you're advised to look into a dual channel ram kit. Short answer, don't mix and match! 1.
You can use 8GB RAM and 4GB RAM together, but doing so can affect performance. Although you’ll have a total of 12GB RAM, it will be slower than using two memory sticks of the same size. Can I put 8GB and 16gb RAM together? In theory, you can easily connect a stick of 8 GB and a stick of 16 GB RAM together in your computer.
Yes, getting a four-DIMM kit would be your best bet. Mixing two identical memory kits is not guaranteed to work and you may be constrained to running both kits at stock JEDEC speed (i.e. 2133MT/s). Okay, I'm gonna do that then, thanks a lot ! I bought 1 stick of ram @ 3200mhz then when I bought another of the exact same ram (make model timings
Whrkly.
